Licensure requires a professional degree in architecture from an accredited program (typically a Master of Architecture), completion of the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) with 3,720 hours of documented experience, and passing the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC). Architects must maintain their licence through annual renewal and continuing education. Building designers and drafters may prepare drawings for some projects but cannot call themselves architects.
